Inevitable
“It was inevitable…”
What puffed up premonition
Props you up on the prophetic pulpit
What seance spirit whispered this
That shatters our senseless somber surprise
We came to share our shackles
Your dimpled eyes
They showed us the door
Pop! You drink from the corked champagne
Even as fearful friends are dying of pain
Naked and wandering under the rain
Faith on concrete, rendered us lame
Celebrate life? Come by again?
Eight months later I don’t feel quite right
But there’s a happy heart behind this smile
And after she lathered our feet with hair
I knew it’d be inevitable that we’d be standing here
Holding beauty as if it were the first time
i don’t get it.
