In my crusade to reveal the outrageousness of the knitting craze…
– Girls can be truckers, so guys can knit too. That’s how the
logic goes. A site for those who are “man enought to knit; strong
enough to purl.” In fact, just to subvert the female dominated
movement (which expanded from 13% to 33% of the female population in
just the last year!), these testosteronic knitters claim that knitting
began with men…Arabian men, to be precise (yes, those tall, dark, handsome men).
http://www.knittinguniverse.com/xrx/events.php – Knitting events
that attract people from all over the nation, featuring even
international vendors of haute yarn. Of local interest was
“Stitches West” which was held in Santa Clara this past weekend.
In addition the eclectic variety of yarn and knitting supply procurers
are group knits, keynote speakers, and a banquet. See here for slideshows of the Stitches East.
– Unfortunately, Valentine’s Day was yesterday, otherwise, I would have
gotten my wife a KNIT-YOUR-OWN-LINGERIE kit. “This romantic
lingerie set is fitting for the blushing bride-to-be or for the old
married lady who wants to stir something up!” For about $50-60, this sure beats the cliche bouqet of roses.
– Think knitting will get you out of a traffic ticket? Try these
vanity license plates on for size. Finally, women can stop
squeezing in their arms together to distract male officers from their
civil duty. Knitting truly brings dignity to women.
– America is about equal access. And what sort of grassroots
movement would knitting be if it excluded the GLBT community? 339
members strong, this listserv is a vital forum for those who desire to
find integration between knitting and their sexuality.
I believe the madness has gotten to my head, because I just spent half an hour writing up this post.
